When summertime starts to roll around it can cause a multitude of problems for your home’s plumbing. With the rise in warmer temperatures, summer brings it’s own unique plumbing problems. Here are a couple of the most common plumbing problems in the summer and here’s how you can prevent them.
Sewer Line and Pipe Damage
If you live in an area with a lot of summer rain and humidity it can damage your sewage line and other pipes. The rise in temperature combined with extra moisture can cause your pipes to sweat and crack. Check for any signs of pipe damage or backup. Some common signs for pipe damage and back are your toilet or bath drain backing up. If you find any of these signs contact a plumbing professional.
Clogged Kitchen Drains and Disposal
During the summer there is an increase in clogged kitchen drains and disposals. People like to cookout more during the summer which can cause problems for your disposal and drains. You will need to be careful with what foods you put in the disposal. Most people think it’s ok to put produce in their disposal since it’s organic. Disposing produce like fruits and veggies is not good for your disposal. Hard fruits and vegetables, like corn or watermelon, are taxing on your disposal and could clog it over time. Cooking oils and grease can also clog your kitchen drain or disposal. You can avoid this by disposing of these products in other ways and by running cold water down your drain/disposal for a few seconds before and after using it.
